Robert Sisson was named president of Republicans for Environmental Protection (REP) in January 2009. He joined the national staff in 2006 after serving as the volunteer president of the Michigan Chapter for three years.
In 2008, the Michigan League of Conservation Voters named Sisson "Environmental Leader of the Year" for his work as a two-term Mayor of the City of Sturgis (MI). During his tenure as Mayor, the City became a model for sustainable environmental practices.

The single most important step that Congress must take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is to put a price on carbon, either through a cap-and-trade system or a carbon tax. Without a price on carbon, other strategies for reducing emissions would fall short. There would be limited incentive to develop and deploy cleaner energy technologies on the scale necessary to reduce emissions significantly.
